    What do we think the jolly old bishop meant by “the secular order”?

    Anyone in authority who’s not wearing a mitre, and a Big Gold Cross, and a Big Gold Ring?

    Probably it means exactly what Fulton Sheen* wanted it to mean – no more and no less.

    *Sounds like a Miracle Cleaning Product doesn’t it? (Probably deliberate!)

    The secular order is that great lumpen mass of humanity that is not AWARE of the Spiritual order, and which muddles around ineffectually in the darkness, trying to find “the solution”.
