Today I learned that because of staff sickness (due to stress) and a financial ban on recruitment my hospital will not be able to provide planned surgery for the foreseeable future. Such staff as there are, are being moved to cover emergency admissions. The word “crisis” is overused in the media, but this is one for sure.
The greatest expense in any healthcare setup is staff costs, by a long mile. Drugs and kit are pocket cash in comparison. This is where I got this great idea: Use unpaid volunteers!
Provide the basic amenities for life, and these volunteer nurses and doctors would work for nothing, one hopes.
Ministering to the sick is one of the greatest forms of worship of the suffering Christ there is.
We need hospitals where the work is done for the cost of the Incarnation, Passion, Death and Resurrection of Our Lord.
Build them, and they will come!
