Before any relationship can flourish, there has to be a meeting.
Before the meeting, there is the coming together, and preparation. Only a mad or evil person would want a meeting to go badly!
Christmas is where God meets man directly, in his worldly, careless and selfish flesh.
(For those with the ears to hear and wills to want, it is Christmas every second of every year, in saecula saeculorum.)
God is meeting man right now, all around the world. Such is the wonder and beauty of Holy Mass. The Incarnation and the Pasch are all as One. The famous icon of Our Lady of Perpetual Succour shows the baby Jesus in His Mother’s arms with angels bearing the Cross and the Nails. The Cross hangs over Bethlehem and our Saviour is in both.
Calvary is where God meets man directly in his suffering flesh.
Easter is where God meets Man directly in His Glorified Flesh for evermore.
Catholicism Pure & Simple 
Christmas is the gateway to eternal life.
To quote Fr Angelus O’Shaughnessy* (from EWTN):
“If you get the Incarnation, then everything else follows”.
