Judge For Yourself

Fr Timothy Radcliffe OP has recently been chosen by Pope Francis to be a consultor to the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace.

I knew nothing of Fr Timothy before I decided to write this, except that he is a bete noir of traddies far and wide. Bruvver Eccles described him this morning as “Fr Radagast”, which made me LOL. (check out the Hobbit movies and his hair)

Things and persons are best brought into the light, before judgement, so here he is, addressing an audience at St Paul’s Cathedral in 2012:

It is a long video, but I have no doubt much “debate” will result.

About Brother Burrito

After reading this blog post I’m not sure I need or want to know more about Fr Radcliffe:

May God bless him and may He have mercy on us all!

  2. johnhenrycn says:

Michael Voris reports: “Radcliffe has the reputation of being the priest that no one in the hierarchy dare oppose. He travels from one diocese to another with the blessings of many in the church establishment. What makes Radcliffe so bullet-proof? Some have suggested that he knows too much about homosexuality in the clergy to ever be challenged. So, he gets a free pass because many bishops are compromised and dare not oppose him.”

Is there reason for wondering whether he (Radcliffe) will eventually come out? Yes indeed.

  3. M P P says:

I know enough about him but was surprised to see him in a habit. “Peace and justice”???? For whom?

Who is concerned for the salvation of souls in the modernist Church? It is as if enemies to our souls are being appointed.

  4. toadspittle says:

Toad watched the whole thing, eventually.
Good speaker, despite a heavy head cold. Likeable, eloquent, engaging, man. (Dead ringer for Seamus Heaney, I thought.) Doesn’t care for Mel Gibson, incredible though that may seem to us.
    Good deal of audience-pleasing flannel.
Several, (most, more likely than not) CP&S brethren will utterly detest the whole boiling.
The talk was supposed to be on “What’s the point of God?” which sounded promising, but nowhere did he come remotely near to addressing that issue.

I tried, but I failed. He bored me to tears. He’s pro-God in some vague way I think?

    JH says:

Does he come out during the lecture Toad? That would be an entertaining moment at least.

  6. toadspittle says:

Does he uncloset himself in the cathedral?
    No, Tom.
But, yes, he does speak quite highly of God.
    …It’s his job.

  7. GC says:

Well, Bruvver Eccles liked it. That would indicate that Farver Radders is (at least slightly) saved.

  8. mkenny114 says:

What makes Radcliffe so bullet-proof? Very good question. Almost every time he opens his mouth it is to contradict Church teaching or utter bland platitudes that only suggest (c.f.; Tom above) that he is ‘pro God is some vague way’. Plus he instructed Tony Blair before his conversion, and we all know how that went…

  9. toadspittle says:

“Bland platitudes” puts it in a nutshell, for me – which is where it safely belongs.
Hectares of homily about what a nice chap God, is and How He’s Love And All That.
…And how we must all be kind and loving to Gays, not all grumpy and bitter, like JH is.
…But we can all be as nasty about Mel Gibson as we like.
So that’s a blessing, at least.

  10. Tom Fisher says:

There is something irritatingly squishy and jellylike about some strands of ‘progressive’ religion.

If someone says “I don’t believe Jesus rose from the dead, he just died” — fair enough, you can have a debate about it. And if someone says “I believe Jesus rose from the dead on the third day and left an empty tomb” — fair enough, you can debate that too.

But what can anyone on either side do with something like this? The primary question is not whether Jesus left an empty tomb, but whether he left his disciples filled with the certainty of his presence. The resurrection is not an event in history, rather it is an event within the heart of each believer, transcending mere historicity*

    * I made that up off the top of my head, but there are plenty of real examples (was partly channeling J.D. Crossan)

  11. johnhenrycn says:

Excuse the stereotypes, but Radcliffe’s voice, mannerisms, facial features and hand motions remind me of Stephen Fry. I’ve never seen his loafers, though.

  12. GC says:

    Both born in London, JH?

  13. toadspittle says:

Or simply both a couple of poofters*?

*Or, as JH would doubtless prefer – pillow -biters?

  14. toadspittle says:

Fie, Toad, you’ve gone too far yet again – off back to “Off Topic” with you – where you belong!

  15. kathleen says:

This Radcliffe man [I refuse to give him the title of “Father”] is just appalling. He is a true wolf in sheep’s clothing, steeped in promoting serious mortal sin from the pulpit, and I think that even putting up a video by this traitor on our blog is a mistake. Timothy Radcliffe is in favour of legalised SODOMY for crying out loud! And women priests… and Heaven knows what other un-Catholic travesty!

His being promoted to be a consultor to the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace by Pope Francis is just about the most shocking thing of all! Does the Pope not know anything about the mindset and views of this man? And if he does know (Heaven forbid), well… I dare not* put my next thoughts into words.

(Great comments from mmvc, M P P, Michael Kenny and Tom at 10:13 by the way.)

  16. toadspittle says:

“Timothy Radcliffe is in favour of legalised SODOMY for crying out loud! “
    …Crying out loud, indeed.
    It’s already legal.
Just as long as Father Tim, aka the Demented Dominican – doesn’t want it made compulsory.
Then, even Toad will start crying out loud.

  17. kathleen says:

This is a man who has received the Sacrament of Holy Orders; he has vowed to be an alter Christi in the world, to bring souls to God. He is a well-known public speaker; people will innocently listen to him in the hope of learning more about their Catholic Faith. When he (and of course, all others of his ilk) preach falsehoods and encourage the faithful to accept lifestyles and attitudes that are sinful, he is doing the Devil’s work. That he can get away with this without a single reprimand from Rome, just goes to show how far the ‘smoke of Satan’ has well and truly infiltrated into the Church.
What many Catholics are asking themselves is – why are those who publicly preach heresy allowed to get away with it, while faithful priests and bishops who hold to Catholic Truth whatever the difficulties and public outcry against them, find themselves often without any back-up or support from the Pope and hierarchy?!

  18. toadspittle says:

    Toad feels your pain, Kathleen.
Thin end of the wedge, and all that. No doubt.
With Father Timmy poncing about dressed up like a statue of St. Francis of Assisi, and behaving more like St. Francis of Sinatra.
It’s a bit like buying a can marked “Baked Beans” only to open it up, and find “Spaghetti Hoops,” or whatever inside.
Black poodle in sheep’s clothing of the family pulling the wool over our eyes.
Can’t be too careful, can we? Appearances can be deceptive.
But it’s plain as the nose on your pikestaff, really.

(That’s enuff clichés for Tuesday, Toad – Ed.)

  19. Tom Fisher says:

Timothy Radcliffe is in favour of legalised SODOMY for crying out loud!

Do you mean he’s in favour of gay ‘marriage’? Or do you mean he’s in favour of the fact that in every western country homosexuality isn’t a police matter? They’re two very different things, and the latter has nothing to do with Catholicism. It would be lunacy to try and make homosexuality per se illegal again. It’s unclear which you’re referring to.

  20. kathleen says:

    @ Tom

He is in favour of homosexual unions, full stop, and one can assume this includes gay ‘marriage’! IOW he promotes ‘sodomy’, and/or whatever the union of two ‘gay’ women is called. He encourages homosexuality by his twisted preaching on ‘understanding’, ‘love’ and ‘tolerance’… with a few mentions of God thrown in for good effect, but has no qualms about sending souls who follow his teaching to Hell. It is damaging to the soul to listen to him for all those who are unaware of his hidden agenda. As I said earlier, a real ‘wolf in sheep’s clothing’.

No one thinks homosexuality (or better said ‘homosexual acts’) should be a “police matter”, unless it involves extortion or the harming of innocents. Homosexuals who struggle to live chaste lives are loved and blessed by God and can reach great heights of sanctity.

  21. Tom Fisher says:

@ Kathleen, I thought that’s probably what you meant, and fair enough, it was just an ambiguous way to phrase it, so I wasn’t sure. I totally understand what you mean. I’d have disagreed otherwise, but I tend to agree with your point
