Lost Without the Supernatural

In what is surely one of the best yet least known blogs on the Catholic blogosphere, Brian Williams (‘Liturgy Guy‘), has brought this vitally important topic to our notice: the loss of the supernatural in our world today, and how “lost” we are without it,

There is something missing from many of our discussions within the Church today. Actually, it’s been missing for decades: a sense of the supernatural. Amid all the talk of lost sheep and pastoral practices, we often find a near total absence of consideration for the fate of the eternal soul. Feelings have replaced truth, and the temporal has trumped the supernatural, even within Holy Mother Church.

The Old Catholic Encyclopedia describes the Supernatural Order as “the ensemble of effects exceeding the powers of the created universe and gratuitously produced by God for the purpose of raising the rational creature above its native sphere to a God-like life and destiny.” It goes on to explain that man is elevated to a state of grace here and glory hereafter.

The need to remain in a state of grace, the overriding urgency to avoid mortal sin, has largely disappeared from the ongoing ecclesial conversation. Those who read this blog regularly know that I frequently turn to Father Francis Spirago’s The Catechism Explained for clarity where presently there is much confusion.

“Mortal sin deprives a man of sanctifying grace,” writes Fr. Spirago, “and delivers him into the power of the devil.” He goes on to explain the devastation caused by sin:

The Holy Ghost departs immediately from one who has committed a mortal sin…(mortal) sin is a thief, for it gains access to the soul, it robs it of grace, it’s most precious treasure…It is the death of the soul…

Saint John Chrysostom, speaking in a manner which is sorely needed in our terribly lost and wounded world, said that “sinners are dead while they live, and the just live after they are dead.”

Through mortal sin we lose the supernatural beauty of the soul. Father Spirago goes on to describe how a world mired in sin can become such a cold, evil, place:

When the earth travels away from the sun, winter sets in; so the heart of man becomes cold when it is estranged from God by mortal sin…

He also explains why reason seems to escape so many who languish in sin:

The understanding is completely darkened by mortal sin. As heavy clouds hide the light of the sun from our sight…so mortal sin obscures the eyes of reason, and renders us incapable of perceiving the brightness of the Sun of justice.

In language that is both charitable and pastoral due to its absolute clarity and honesty, Father writes, “Mortal sin brings down upon the sinner both eternal damnation and temporal chastisement.” Wow.

What is tragic is that the radical, secular, humanism which stands as the antithesis to the Church today has incorporated the language of certainty just as we have abandoned it. The conviction and clarity of the eternal truths espoused by Holy Mother Church are presented in an almost apologetic manner. Sadly, while we hem and haw about the supernatural truths of the Faith, the left (including many within the Church) boldly proclaims the lie of relativism that no longer really believes in sin or eternal damnation.

Our Christian hope, however, is never dashed as we know what must happen in order to live in a state of grace now, and to one day enjoy the beatific vision. Returning to The Catechism Explained:

When the sinner cooperates with actual grace, the Holy Ghost enters his soul and confers on it a brightness and beauty which claim the friendship of God. This indwelling beauty of the soul is due to the presence of the Holy Spirit and is called “sanctifying grace”.

This. This is Truth. This is what is too often missing from our “dialogue” and “accompaniment”. Our world lacks grace. Too many roam the world absent the presence of the Holy Spirit in their soul. We need to teach this clearly and unabashedly.

Father Spirago lists for us some of the effects of the Holy Spirit when He acts upon us by His grace. It is the medicine much needed by our very ailing world:

1. He (the Holy Spirit) purifies us from all mortal sin.
2. He unites us to God and makes us into temples of God.
3. He illumines the mind, and makes the divine and moral precepts possible.
4. He gives us true peace.
5. He becomes our Teacher and Guide.
6. He inspires us to do good works and makes them meritorious for the kingdom of heaven.
7. He makes us children of God and heirs of heaven.

Pray that we may see a return of more clarity, and not less, in the coming years. Pray that the Church recovers the lost sense of the supernatural that is missing today. May we rediscover the necessity of teaching and preaching on the need to live in a state of grace and to avoid mortal sin at all cost. Through a return to the bold teachings and timeless truths of the Faith we will cooperate with God at a time when our world so badly needs it.

I should have thought that, even with their long historical sense and awareness of the supernatural or the transcendental, most people and societies have still been more than sufficiently wicked in spite of the terrible prospect of dire everlasting supernatural torments in punishment of flagrant sin.

If the expectation of these terrifying tortures suddenly disappears, as it appears to have done, then I suppose we have to appeal to evolution to sort out all this gross misbehavioural mess, eventually – or not. Best of luck with that one.

  7. Robert says:

I dislike that expression Supernatural because it isn’t true. Heaven isn’t Supernatural!
I also dislike “..the purpose of raising the rational creature above its native sphere to a God-like life ..”
This is not the Truth of the Faith.
The Truth is Man As Created by God LOST through Disobedience (Original Sin) Heaven and the Beautific Vision . This Disobedience (since obedience is Love, disobedience is hatred ) exiled Adam and Eve and their descendants. Gods justice on Fallen Man was exile and to die the Death.
But God so love the world that he Gave Us His Only Begotten Son, Our Lord, and through His dreadful Passion in Holy Week fulfilled God’s Justice on Adam and Eve.
Neither Heaven nor Hell are Supernatural they are the Eternity facing Man for each to in free will choose.
Denying one article of the Faith is to deny the Faith!
The Creed stands Creator of Heaven and Earth of all things visible and invisible.
All we are seeing is the Great Apostacy fortold by Our Lord and known to the Fathers Of The Church.

  8. GC says:

St Thomas Aquinas may disagree with you, Robert. He was very concerned with the supernatural and the connatural.

  9. Robert says:

What currently goes for supernatural in todays world?
Answer an American TV show fantasy! horror!
I am sure that Aquinas didn’t mean that did he?

Sadly to we remember what Our Lord said about the heart and sin. It is impossible today to read a newspaper, watch television, bill boards, advertising etc.. without the obligatory sexual contentment. The idolitary of stars/sportsmen/sportswomen/singers/politicians etc.. etc.. Beastility extends into secular marriage and relationships. All of which are considered natural! What is Heaven’s perception of this?
Remember that sins of the flesh (Lucia 1944) were the reasons given by Heaven for souls falling into Hell.

The Church and especially the science of the saints is to Live in the presence of God. The spiritual Life being the Real world and this fallen world as dust and food for worms.

Perhaps the Eucharist is Supernatural? Perhaps Grace is Supernatural?

Faith means a Belief in Things Unseen. The Science of the Saints! In fact Grace is precisely the Life seen in the saints and we see in them the living image of God, For what other purpose does the Church exist?

  10. Robert says:

GC Aquinas actually only used the supernatural 336 in 8,500,000 words. Grace is used 16,004 times and Natural 15.934 times. My concern is that the Faith is seen as fantasy or horror. That the great Truths of the Faith treated as fables and myths. The glorious early martyrs shed their blood for Truths and belief in things unseen.

  11. toadspittle says:

As Roger points out in his inimitable way – it all depends on what we mean by The Supernatural, dunnit? If everything’s supernatural, then nothing is.
“What currently goes for supernatural in todays world? Answer an American TV show fantasy! horror!”
Utter nonsense. Americans regard TV as TV, same as the rest of the world, except you, as junk food for their “brains.” They regard religions – all the thousand varieties of them that the nation “enjoys,” as supernatural.
I am sure that Aquinas didn’t mean that did he?
Of course he didn’t – so it was pointless of you to mention it.

  12. toadspittle says:

“….most people and societies have still been more than sufficiently wicked in spite of the terrible prospect of dire everlasting supernatural torments in punishment of flagrant sin.”

GC is surely onto something here. I realise that, as a child in the 1940’s, I didn’t love God at all. I was simply petrified of Him, and what He would do to me – have me “writhing in the pits of Hell” for all eternity, if I was naughty. Or so the good nuns told me, in which case it had to be true. Gertrude will confirm this, (probably reluctantly, but she will, because she is honest.)
Later on, I came to the conclusion that all that was absurd. Maybe I was wrong to do so. But I still think it is.

  13. Robert says:

Toad this is what Our Lord said and His voice! His insights and the Light He uses like the Divine Doctor that He is. St John’s Gospel deals with precisely this material.
Spirituality is placing God at the centre of Our Lives! Not the WILL OF MAN.
Understand WE ARE BORN OF GOD. What today is the Will of Man (that excludes God?)
Now God isn’t a concept, He can be seen and heard because he is ominiscient and omnipresent.

    Chapter 1
[13] Who are born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
[14] And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we saw his glory, the glory as it were of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

The Creator and this is expressly against Rationalism
[3] All things were made by him: and without him was made nothing that was made.
[4] In him was life, and the life was the light of men.
[5] And the light shineth in darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.

That simply statement THE DARKNESS DID NOT COMPREHEND IT. That is the measure of Our Age of Apostacy.
Now lets look at the senses. What is being presented continuously pumped before our sense? Well sex sells for one thing. The Our Father points to thoughts (Temptations) presented to Us and NOT dismissed or avoided or rejected. Toad dismisses this SENSational material of Fiction packaged and presented in the Media. But this is the imposition of the WILL of Man!

Going back to Toads childish view of the Faith. You were correctly taught the basics BUT as a Man why did you Not grow and Flesh out this seeing Gods Love and Justice and understanding that ETERNITY can only be Heaven Or Hell. Why do Catholics NOT grow up with their Faith?

  14. kathleen says:

Dear Robert, I do not understand your “dislike” of the term Supernatural.

While it is true that in the arts today, with its fascination for the paranormal, many people’s idea of its more profound meaning may have been stumped, it is still the word used to describe all that is unseen; IOW, that which is over and above the natural world around us, but just as real (and even more so) as that which the naked eye beholds.
In the Nicene Creed, when we pray: “I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, and in all things visible and invisible” we are affirming our faith in the “supernatural”.

In the Catechism of the Catholic Church, under the section on “Grace” we read:

1998 – This vocation to eternal life is supernatural. It depends entirely on God’s gratuitous initiative, for he alone can reveal and give himself. It surpasses the power of human intellect and will, as that of every other creature.

2000 – Sanctifying grace is an habitual gift, a stable and supernatural disposition that perfects the soul itself to enable it to live with God, to act by his love….

(And I’m sure there are plenty of other entries in the CCC mentioning the supernatural.)

In his excellent article, Liturgy Guy is pointing out how in our Secular Age man is denying the “supernatural”, and the disastrous consequences of this denial. “Everlasting Man” is not a mere animal content solely with the natural world around him; he years for God, he craves for union with God, not just in this world but forever and ever. Man knows in his innermost being – he has this inbuilt instinct given him at the dawn of Creation – that he is an immortal being. Though since The Fall it has become convenient to hide this instinct so that he can follow his lower basic self (therefore lying to himself that there is anything supernatural) he still holds this inner knowledge and pull towards it.

Heaven and Hell are both supernatural; by denying their existence and living like beasts of the Earth we are forfeiting our true home, i.e. Heaven, and opening the gates to Hell! That is the Truth and the message Liturgy Guy is expounding here.

  15. kathleen says:

    Toad @ 6:47

I’m sorry to hear you were “petrified of God” when you were a child! Yet the teaching of Hell is anything but “absurd”.

Though the nuns were right to teach you of the very real existence of Hell and how those who refuse God’s Love will choose to end up there, it sounds like they did not make it clear to you that God’s Immense Love and Mercy will save you from Hell. Did they not also teach you (but they surely did) how through Our Lord’s redemptive Sacrifice on the Cross, His dying for our sins, Eternal Death has been overcome if we sincerely repent and fall upon His Loving Mercy?
    The choice is ours.

It may have been (I don’t know) too much about Damnation and not enough about Salvation in your time – or perhaps I should say, “in your case” – but nowadays it is the lack of teaching of the Four Last Things that has swung the pendulum in the other direction. No talk about the consequences for a man who has chosen to refuse Jesus’ call to repentance and ‘to pick up his cross and to follow Him’ is far worse than an over-emphasis on the existence of Hell.
Our Lady did not hesitate to show Hell to even small children at Fatima!

Toad, becoming an agnostic or unbeliever to assuage your fear of Hell is not the answer. As our old friend GKC says: “When men choose not to believe in God, they do not thereafter believe in nothing, they then become capable of believing in anything.”

  16. Robert says:

Kathleen we understand the Supernatural in this way that man as a creature has the five senses. In the flesh these senses are natural but the spirit also has senses supernatural. Why do I say this? because this is the Creature Man. The Resurrection Of Our Lord and in Our Resurrection is as Man. However the sting of the material goes.
Now Gay is a lovely word but has a modern meaning. Sadly Supernatural is another word that has a sensational sudo mystical modern meaning. But we can say that Supernatural is placing the Spiritual before the material.
The Faith says either with Christ or against (Satan), Satan is Gods Ape and he APES (copies) to confusion and misrepresent.
If we are in an Apostacy (this is certainly true and acknowledged by Rome in the West). we will find that the Way of the Cross (and we all carry a Cross) becomes so much harder because its incomprehensible!
The Ways of the world seem rational and natural (but this is the Will Of Man seduced by Satan).
This is why Reparation is so important because its the anti dope to Satan’s poison. Our Lady is the Doctor giving us the serum that wil cure Us prayer and penance, sacraments.

  17. ginnyfree says:

Toad, when you get there you’ll find out who was right. If you’re headed in the wrong direction, God allows U-turns, so make a good Confession soon, just in case Sister Mary Whackyerknuckles was right, okay? Heaven will be a lesser place without a Toad or two. God bless. Ginnyfree.

[A moderator: Sorry Toad, this comment spouting nonsense and heresy cannot be published.]

But what a good discussion – and what good (albeit a bit predictable) replies to Toad so far. Thanks to all.

  19. Robert says:

Thank you Ginnyfree. I join my prayers to yours and that Good Sister.
So few realise that SUFFERING/PAIN senses are found with the Spirit. That’s the fires of Hell and Purgatory.
Its a lie that secular (Satanic) idea that there is no suffering after the Death of the Body!! These fools of Satan that want Euthanasis legalised. Abortion etc.. The Souls in Purgatory (the fires of Purgation) Saints have been visited by the Holy souls and witnessed the fires of Purgatory!
The Fires of Hell are very Real and I thank that good sister Mary for trying to knock some Charity into Toad!

  20. toadspittle says:

“Heaven will be a lesser place without a Toad or two. God bless. Ginnyfree.”
But it wouldn’t be complete without you, Gin -would it now?
As a boy, I was told presumption was one of two unforgivable sins. I wouldn’t know.

  21. Robert says:

The papers mourning the death a Idol the singer called Prince. But the papers describe him as androgynous. Now we are bound to pray for the souls of the departed. However realise that androgynous is completely contrary to your Faith! Begin to understand what Our Lord told sister Lucy in 1944 about sins of the flesh and Hell. Love the poor Sinner but NEVER the SIN.

  22. toadspittle says:

“However realise that androgynous is completely contrary to your Faith!”
Might be contrary to yours, Regbot. I couldn’t care less.
However, nobody, as far as I know – adored “Prince.”
Just liked the noise he made. I didn’t, myself.

  23. Robert says:

The point is global idols and mortal Sins which are ignored, swepted under the carpet. You see this especially with the mortal Sin of fornication where as Our Lord pointed out the desire is enough. Adultery is coupled with desire and off course pornography. The world doesn’t consider these amoral (talk of adults etc..) however they are mortal Sins. As Toad says he “..couldn’t care less..” But all that does is show a self centred I am alright attitude and the world can go to the Devil!

  24. toadspittle says:

“You see this especially with the mortal Sin of fornication where as Our Lord pointed out the desire is enough..”
Well, it’s all hopeless, then, isn’t it? God clearly made us desire sex, that is procreation – otherwise we would all be extinct by now. If simply “desiring” (whatever that means) another person- is going to land us all in Hell, well – I’m utterly lost for words. (I’m not really – I just think it’s dopey)

Poor old Prince. What a foolish fuss is being made of his death.

[Moderator: The rest of this comment and several others have been deleted. All off topic and rampant relativism.]

  25. ginnyfree says:

Good point Robert, on pointing out that our Blessed Lord Himself said all you have to do is look on a woman with lustful thoughts and whammo! Mortal sin. However if a certain Progressive Catholic whose name I won’t mention was told by someone here who I will also refrain from naming, that the mortal sin associated with lustful thoughts needs to be remedied in the confessional, that person would be blasted with the superior knowledge of the theologists that three things must be present for the sin to be mortal and those three things must be considered only by the enlightened standard with which all members of the Progressive Catholic Church measures itself by. And don’t forget, they ONLY use the modern standard acceptable language version of those three things. All versions of the truth prior to 1970 were abrogated and that includes the Gospel version as well. To them, merely givin’ the gal the eye isn’t enough. I’m not sure which of their three things necessary wouldn’t be measured up to by that slightly lustful act, but since it ain’t acted upon, eye candy is allowed as long as you don’t steal your neighbor’s candy bar if you know what I mean! I should stop before I get me in trouble. God bless. Ginnyfree.

  26. ginnyfree says:

As for you Toad, I’m sending Sister Mary Whackyerknuckles to your lilypad soon and at your age, it could get ugly. She won’t be bought off with some extra-credit essays this time. God bless. Ginnyfree.

  27. ginnyfree says:

Wow thanks for reminding me why I don’t bother much with the news anymore. Prince? Dead? May he rest in peace and those that mourn him be consoled.

  28. Robert says:

I am well aware that so many Sins today are Not seen as such. Our Lady at Fatima talked of fashions!

    Matthew 5:28

The starting Point is Our Lords Prayer.
Man is tempted by his own flesh, by the devil, and by the world.
The flesh always seeks its own gratifications, namely carnality and the neglect of spiritual things.
The devil tempts Man in those things that the devil perceives he is weak in.
The world tempts man By awakening in him an excessive and unbridled desire. By threatening with persecution.

Now the Faith is Sacred Tradition and the Bible. For those who question or even deny the Gospels
    John 14:26
But the Paraclete, the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things, and bring all things to your mind, whatsoever I shall have said to you.

This is why we have an Apostolic Church and this means the same Faith as handed by Our Lord to the Apostles. Apostolic Succession ensures that with Us we have the certainty with Our Faith that it is that given by Our Lord to the Apostles.
In other words what the Church has taught of as Sin from the Apostles is Sin as confimed by The Holy Ghost and Our Lord.

Mortal Sin requires full knowledge of the wrong that is being done!
Fornication, pornography (participating in and viewing), prostitution, sexual perversity (sexual abuse) are mortal sins. Obviously consenting to Sin and approving of Sin.

Now we are to avoid ALL of the occasions of Sin (Confiteor) which Ginny means eyeing candy. How do you no whether that candy is your neighbours or NOT?

  29. Robert says:

    Sin embraces Temptation

  30. ginnyfree says:

Toad, it isn’t the gift of procreative love that God gave to man and woman that is bad. It is it’s misuse that is. The embrace of love between a man and his wife is sacred. Our Blessed Lord Himself elevated the natural contract of marriage to a Sacrament. That means it is holy and capable of imparting graces to the husband and wife that will lead to their mutual sanctification. Lived faithfully, the Sacrament of Matrimony is the ordinary means of by which the vocation to marriage is fulfilled. It is the gateway for the fruitful love of the conjugal embrace. The singular act of procreation lived inside the marital bond is Blessed by the Father and bears the proof of His blessing in the fruit of the womb, children. When either of the spouses sins against the Sacrament of Matrimony, both suffer as do the children. There are many temptations to sin against this holy bond between man and wife and if the sins they need to protect their marriage from, such as those Robert listed, aren’t taught as sins that are always grave, then the man and the woman may fall for them thinking it isn’t that big a deal. Well it is. All it takes is one lustful look at another and there is a sin against the Sacrament of Matrimony. It needs to be remedied by Confession. But the theology of the Progressives blurs the lines enough that most of the sins against Matrimony are white washed away into venial sins that need not be taken to a Priest for healing. Huge mistake. By the time the couple has gotten to the attorney’s office, they’ve no idea how their marriage got so broken. It could’ve been healed by frequent confession from the day they returned from their honeymoon forward. I think the Pre-Cana classes given should include how to make a good Confession as well as real Catholic teaching on all the sins of the flesh that can destroy a marriage, and not the stuff they’ve been teaching, if they get any real instructions at all. A gift from the priest before the wedding should be a copy of a good book on how to make a good Confession and perhaps it should be one written before 1960 and reprinted. Some of the newer ones aren’t good enough for the bird cage floor to be blessed by Tweetie Bird. Oh well. Nuff said. God bless. Ginnyfree.

  31. ginnyfree says:

Robert, I’m only going to take you to task on one little itty bitty detail of your comment: “Mortal Sin requires full knowledge of the wrong that is being done!” Not so. I bet my bootstraps on the Baltimore Catechism: SUFFICIENT REFLECTION is what is says about how much grey matter needs to be engaged before the line gets crossed. That is how it was taught for a long, long time. It is correct and a hell of a lot less permissive than PERFECT KNOWLEDGE, and/or a lesser whitewash job of full knowledge. I don’t need to be able to define fully a particular sin to have committed it. I am well aware that certain moral theologians have written extensively on the matter in recent times, yet the Baltimore Catechism was and is still correct in its basic instructions. Sin hasn’t changed as of late, just the way they talk about it. Seems no one these days commits any mortal sins anymore because they lack full/perfect knowledge. Well if that is so, why is there a couple of million abortions every year and a divorce rate higher some years than 50%? I’ll give you a clue: it isn’t because folks aren’t sinning mortally anymore. No, sufficient reflection can be over in a few seconds. Be vigilant. The devil is prowling around like a roaring lion looking to devour someone I hear. Don’t let it be you. God bless. Ginnyfree.

  32. toadspittle says:

I’m sorry these comments are so one-sided, all. (The Moderators, you know. They have your sensitive souls at heart and feel obliged to protect you good sheep from heresy.)

“Our Lady did not hesitate to show Hell to even small children at Fatima!”
Hell looked strangely like a medieval wall painting, I thought – grinning black (Moors!) demons with pitchforks, etc.
And didn’t she say there were people in Hell “…because they have no one to pray for them”?
Which must be one of the most appalling statements ever uttered. Apparently this situation is beyond her control.

I think, seriously, that the reason so many turn away from the idea of God, ids that He seems either unwilling or unable to intervene beneficially on our behalf.

[Last sentence deleted by a moderator]

  33. toadspittle says:

“As our old friend GKC says: “When men choose not to believe in God, they do not thereafter believe in nothing, they then become capable of believing in anything.”
There is no record of GKC ever saying something that crass. It is a myth, apparently.
Just because Dawkins doesn’t believe in God, does’t mean he believes in astrology.

  34. Robert says:

    Yes Ginny!
I simply paraphrased Aquinas on the Our Father!
The point is One Holy Apostolic Catholic. Universal for All times/men one Faith. Also an never mentioned are anathemas (these carry automatic excommunications! nothing to discuss automatic). God’s punishment on Sodom (which was a flesh pot of Sins, beastility. Lot remember had offered His daughters for fornication). God’s punishment on Babel.
Some of the ‘opinions’ that have come out of Rome since 1960 and have been glossed over were subject to anathemas. The Joke is to demonise the pre 1960 rites/seminary training/tradition because the Holy Ghost had been perfecting and teaching for 2000 years!
Hell is known from whether we find man. But the Faith has expanded on this knowledge with certainty of Truth. Depiction of Hell , well are you saying that the so called medieval Christions were deluded? Are you implying that they were wrong and a Modern (non Christian) moderate version is correct?
Souls are lost because ethey have no one to pray for them. Again prayers for the dead and the repose of their souls are as Old as Man. Man has free will and obligations these are to place God first and our neighbour next and self last!
Adam and Eve sinned against God, but Not neighbour. they are the Original penitents making reparation for their Sin through the mortal Lives.
Cain’s Sin was against God and His neighbour. Just like you “am I my brothers keeper?” This is what has come out of you Toad
“..“However realise that androgynous is completely contrary to your Faith!” Might be contrary to yours, Regbot. I couldn’t care less.”
See you do not consider your neighbour (couldn’t care less) thats self centered and contrary to Christ who loves all and especially poor sinners (hating Sin)
Toad Cain blamed God, You blame Our Lady. Self and Opinion! Cain

  35. toadspittle says:

    “You blame Our Lady”
I do not. What a shocking thing to say. Read it again, carefully.
“Souls are lost because they have no one to pray for them.”
I make it a point to pray for those who have no one else to pray fro them. But is that the only reason these souls are lost? Dreadful, loveless, and heartless – if so.

(Everyone else here can see what I’m getting at. I suppose I’ll have to spell it out for you.)

  36. Robert says:

Thank you Toad I am glad that you are defending Our Lady and recognising the Communion of Saints where we are obliged to pray and make reparation for the sins of the world!

At Fatima the children and others were jolted into Reparation (which fulfils the Love of God and Neighbour) by the revelation of Hell and especially Purgatory. Portugal 1910 Church-State separation? But is the State concerned with prayer and reparation for its citizens? or is it actually taking the State out of God’s Providence? Take God away and there is Satan.

Fatima is so important and relevant to so called modern man!
Take God away from Man and we have a dead soul. This is what Cain became.
State-Church separation opens the door to Satan’s possession.
Think of the swine Matthew chapter 8 “..the country of the Gerasens, there met him two that were possessed with devils, coming out of the sepulchres, exceeding fierce..”

The blog is ‘lost without the supernatural’ , sadly supernatural is a word that has come to mean sudo mystical. But modernism and rationalism (naturalism) is all about the world and the flesh, nothing of the spiritual. Toad “.. Dreadful, loveless, and heartless ..” Yes because of the neglect of the souls!
The Our Father is about Our Souls, Our spiritual Bread, Temptations etc..

  37. toadspittle says:

“At Fatima the children and others were jolted into Reparation (which fulfils the Love of God and Neighbour) by the revelation of Hell and especially Purgatory. “

Do you believe this is an accurate revelation of Hell, Robert?
“The demons were distinguished [from the souls of the damned] by their terrifying and repellent likeness to frightful and unknown animals, black and transparent like burning coals. “
…Because I don’t. I think it’s a child telling people what they want to hear – from what she’s seen in church paintings, or in picture books.. But who knows?

“…well are you saying that the so called medieval Christians were deluded? “
Yes. About a great many things. And I suppose so called medieval Muslims and Jews were, as well.

“As our old friend GKC says: “When men choose not to believe in God, they do not thereafter believe in nothing, they then become capable of believing in anything.”
There is no record of GKC ever saying something that crass. It is a myth, apparently.

Who says it’s “a myth”? Nor is it “crass”; quite the contrary. Look around you: we are seeing today all sorts of weird fascinations for crazy paranormal phenomena since so many have chosen to deny God’s existence.
Man is primarily a Soul encased in a Body. Our spiritual dimension aspires towards God. We draw ourselves closer to God when, through our bodies and human nature made in His “Image and Likness”, we learn to control our concupiscence (result of The Fall) and live like “other Christs”.

It takes a lifetime, Toad, so don’t despair. It is often a matter of one step forward and two steps back – I know that only too well! But starting afresh each day with our ‘morning offering’ prayer to Our Loving Father (and recourse to the Sacraments, the rosary, etc,) will keep us struggling on under the protection of God, Our Blessed Mother, and all the angels and saints.

  39. kathleen says:

    Toad @ 10:39 today

You don’t know what you’re talking about. Have you really looked into the events that took place at Fatima with an open mind, leaving behind your cynicism and negativity?

The lives of the little visionaries changed DRASTICALLY after Our Lady had shown them the horrific vision of Hell. Blessed Jacinta in particular – a child of only seven years – spent her remaining time on Earth submitting her frail body to the most harsh penances and sacrifices to save souls from the dreadful fate of ending up in Hell. Sr. Lucia, who gave herself up to a long life of prayer in Carmel (she died at 95, I think) repeated the description of what Our Lady had shown them and her warnings of the terrible possibility of ending up there in this place of no return if men “did not amend their lives”.
You simply cannot write-off what happened to the children that 13th July, 1917 in this way. It makes no sense at all when you look at their astounding witness following this date.

Besides, your dispagement of Mediaeval times is baseless too. It was a time of some amazing saints and scholars, and great learning and achievements.

  40. toadspittle says:

“Besides, your (Toad’s) dispagement of Mediaeval times is baseless too.”
I’m not disparaging it. Very many wonderful things, including cathedrals and superb works of art, were produced. Bur the folk were deluded, if you like – about the earth’s trajectory, among other things. They thought disease was caused by evil spirits. Nobody would go out at night, if possible, because demons were in control. And so on.
Anyway, many people are deluded about many things in 2016, too. Perhaps just as many as in medieval times. Maybe even more. There’s a good deal more to be deluded about, these days.
We all agree, on that, don’r we?

    “Who says it’s “a myth”?”
I do.* Many people have looked in vain for this infamous “quote,” and – so far at least, nobody has found it, including his biographers. But it’s interesting and instructive, that Kathleen should pick up on it, because it’s “…the sort of thing Gil might have said.” So, lo and behold – GLC is sais to have said it. Makes me, and anyone objective – wonder about the things other people have “said” to have said – because it was the kind of thing people felt they ought to have said. Like Dorothy Parker, for example, or The Protocols of Zion. Things have been attributed to me because they were “…the sort of thing only Toad says, “ only to be told they were originally said by the likes of Perelman, Mencken, Pater, or Woody Allen. I have a good memory for quotes.

    [Moderator: Two heretical sentences deleted.]

*(Although I might be wrong. They might yet find the quote in amongst the thickets of verbosity. But I doubt it. It is a silly quote. Too silly for him.)

  41. ginnyfree says:

One thought Toad – why do you find it so easy to judge Medieval Man as so backward and stupid? That to only thing noteworthy of entire centuries of the history of mankind can be JUDGED by men so readily in this enlightened age, it the artworks and buildings that craftsmen poured their lifeblood into building? And please note that which is glorified by them: Christ. Not so in our modern age. I ask you who or what is glorified by the Empire State Building and the Eiffel Tower? It ain’t God, that for certain. So, when you claim a non-judgemental status regarding persons and their works, please consider NOT JUDGING entire generations of persons in the past. God bless. Ginnyfree.

  42. toadspittle says:

“One thought Toad – why do you find it so easy to judge Medieval Man as so backward and stupid?”
Because he did backward and stupid things, Gin. People still do them, probably worse, because they should know better by now.. Back in the days of “Mary’s Dowry,” here was no education for the vast bulk of humanity, so it wasn’t their fault. Hardly any nowadays, really. Look at the illiterate drivel to be read on other websites. Not CP&S, of course. Our standards (of literacy, at least) are impeccable.
“So, when you claim a non-judgemental status regarding persons and their works, please consider NOT JUDGING entire generations of persons in the past.”
Good gtief, Ginny – pay attention. Toad judges like mad. Always has. Judges Brahms better than Beastie Boys, Botticelli better than Basquiat. Entire generations as well. I judge Jefferson, Franklin, and Co vastly superior to the Clinton and Trump lot..

  43. Robert says:

Oh Toad. Our Lord had more compassion on the poor misled masses than the wise and learned. I think its interesting to look at the background to Lourdes and Fatima. France and its secular scientifical enlightened new world (the French Revolution threw Our Lady Our of the Church and replaced with a Woman of Reason!). Portugal 1910 and its anti Christian Laws.
So what did Heaven do at both Lourdes and Fatima? Used children to report verbatim the Apparitions words.
Perhaps the French and the Portuguese could imprision and try that Appartition? The children were taught by Heaven not by Man. Look at the crass stupidity of these Wise and Prudent and learn that without Humility and Love of God and Neighbour these wordly Wise with human reasoning simply set a Path to Hell!
This is exactly what the secular world is doing today! The Road to Hell is pathed with Good Intentions!
Worse this worldy spirit has infiltrated the Church (Paul VI) . You want wisdom? Reparation and a horror of Sin perhaps the Mediveal knew more than the Wise and Prudent!
The so called Reformation was the wise and prudent the literate rebelling. Just the same happened 2000 years ago in Jerusalem and it seems is being repeated by certain parties in Rome.
Right now the Middle East is in an eruption of all out war and Europe bankrupt by the 2005 crisis(which we are far from having recovered from). A Europe that is anti Christian.
We talk of Rome the reality is this is now simply the prison called Vatican!!

  44. Tom Fisher says:

When men choose not to believe in God, they do not thereafter believe in nothing, they then become capable of believing in anything

Yes Toad, it isn’t originally a remark made by Chesterton. But it succinctly conveys a thought that he expressed in various roundabout ways, and the mistaken attribution is true to the spirit of his thought, if not the letter of his work. It’s very Chestertonian in that it offers a completely false choice, and it doesn’t take much thought to spot the fallacy. But it’s fun, as is GKC, the Everyman Anthology is highly recommended — just don’t take him too seriously.

  45. toadspittle says:

“Oh Toad. Our Lord had more compassion on the poor misled masses than the wise and learned.”
Course He did, Rebort – that was His job. I like to think I have more myself. The wise and learned can shift for themselves.

“It’s very Chestertonian in that it offers a completely false choice,”
Neatly – and accurately – put, Tom.
“…and the mistaken attribution is true to the spirit of his thought, if not the letter of his work. “
I think your’e being a bit hard on the poor old porker. He was better than that.

(That’s enough Fat Boy for the time being.)

  46. ginnyfree says:

Robert, you’ve found another of my pet peeves: “So what did Heaven do at both Lourdes and Fatima? Used children to report verbatim the Apparitions words.”

Gee, Ginny, what’s wrong with that?

Ginny: it wasn’t a mere apparition. The Mother of God actually was there body and soul, in the flesh! She actually spent time with some few persons in this world who weren’t dead yet. Here is the first definition for the word “apparition” – “a ghost or ghostlike image of a person.” Mary is in Heaven, body and soul. This must be believed with divine and Catholic faith, yet when many talk of these things, she gets reduced to a mere ghostlike appearance, as if the persons seeing her are ONLY seeing a ghost, an apparition. I know it is very common to talk of her this way, but it drives me bonkers!!!!!!! Mary, the Mother of God was actually physically there. There is a difference between meeting a person in the flesh and seeing a ghost. See what I mean? If not, just humor me. The Mother of God actually was in the places mentioned, physically. That is the reason why they are such extraordinary events. They are proof that she is alive and whole and perfectly glorified in her person, etc. God bless. Ginnyfree.

  47. toadspittle says:

“They are proof that she is alive and whole and perfectly glorified in her person, etc. “
They are no such thing. But who cares. except Gin and Rebot?
(What the heck does, ” …perfectly glorified in her person, etc. “ mean? That she was somehow different when she appeared at Fatima, than when she lived in Israel? Why?)

  48. Robert says:

Right Ginny! Our Lady is in Heaven Body and Soul!
But Apparation has specific meanings (your will find this with mystical theology). The seer is seeing through the eyes of the soul. If a Heavenly being appeared you would die because they are filled with the Trinity and their Light is greater infinately greater than the Sun! Fatima is remarkable because the crowd without shading their eyes looked directly at the Sun!
The Church uses the expression seer and apparition for good reason.
Sounds as though you have experienced the presence of Our Lady!
The point is the ridiculous French and Portugese Authorities when faced with the Lady! They were rendered helpless. All the kings horses and All the Kings Men count for nothing against this Lady!
Toad has dared to mention Our Lady’s Dowry and He will now regret His derisory and ill informed prejudices against His Catholic forefathers!

  49. ginnyfree says:

Robert, I’m well aware of the varying levels of the experiences of God that are found in our mysticism. There are many ways in which God communes with man. An apparition of a person can mean just their ghost. That is the most common understanding of the word. If you walked up to a person and stated plainly that someone had an apparition of another person now deceased, they would that person had seen a ghost. This is not true as it pertains to the Queen of Heaven. God does allow her to commune with others in various ways, but the exclusivity of the sites of Fatima and Lourdes are unique in that she was actually there, in person, in the flesh, as she is without leaving Heaven. That is what is unique about those sites and why there were so many miracles associated with them, to mark the places where she actually came to, not just a mere apparition. But it is the chosen word most commonly used and it is wise to do so simply because it fosters the engagement of a faith that is more than mere understanding. You have to believe in a doctrine regarding her to get to the place in your faith that sees clearly what is contained in the facts surrounding the events. If you don’t believe that she was assumed body and soul into Heaven where she is very much alive, you going to go for the mere apparition of a ghost level of faith. That is sufficient, but not the fullness of the faith contained in the Catholic Church. Thus it is one of my pet peeves when Catholics discuss some of the places our Lady has appeared. See what I mean? Hope you do. God bless. Ginnyfree.

  50. ginnyfree says:

So, Toad, you’ve found right judgement is not a fault, let alone a sin or some crime against a permissive society that should be stopped by any and all means possible. We haven’t quite gotten to that part yet, “the any and all means possible,” but there are those working on it at which time in the foreseeable future, it may be considered a hate crime if I mention that God hated the crimes of Sodom and Gomorrah so much that He leveled them to rubble. It may also be a hate crime to say God hates the acts of homosexuals, transgendered persons and all states of perversion they can think of. It may also become illegal for me to say the the homosexuals who marry are deluded and that they really have no marriage except for any legal, but totally unjust, contract the state may provide for them. I’m not bound by that legal fiction. I have a religious right to not have to honor that bull. But there are those who feel I am and should be and who will at some point in the future insist that my Church not only acknowledge it, but celebrate it. Toad, I’m sure I’m not telling anything you don’t already know but certain persons who belong to a group called Roman Catholic Women Priests have already preformed gay weddings and they are open and welcoming to all who are interested in a Catholic wedding who are same sex couples. Hello? If they continue doing so, it could happen that our wonderful government will say, “Gee, one Catholic group does it, so why don’t all the rest?” and then they will take measures to make sure the rest either do so, or cease to be a church open to the public. That’s what I think Toad. That is why you should make a good Confession now while you still can. It may happen sooner than most think. It is creeping up on us already. So, be a smart Toadie and sit down with a pen and some paper and being the work of recollection of all your mortal sins and take that epic to a Priest soon. I mean it too. You’ve lived foolishly, don’t die that way. God bless. Ginnyfree.

  51. Robert says:

A Devine “A manual of mystical theology” express refers to our lady’s apparition at Lourdes.
    Fatima was 1917
The Dogma of Assumption was proclaimed by Pius XII Nov 1 1950. I understand your pet peeve Our Lady is in Heaven in Body and Soul this until 1950 was an opinion. I never mentioned ghosts and actually Devines opinion was that Our Lady was actually present at Lourdes and at the same time enjoying the beautific vision. That was an opinion before 1950.
The point is actually the Church has not definitively said what you are saying. Its a holy opinion but apparition to a seer is in this case safe.
In some ways you have distracted from the topic.

  52. toadspittle says:

[A moderator – two lines of blasphemous questions deleted.]

Will Quasimodo still have his hump Up There? If not, how will we recognise him?

Are childish arrogance and fatuous smugness considered sins? I know there’s one called presumption.
Probably committed it hundreds of times myself. Or so I presume. Gin-Girl will put me right on that.

“Of Course God will forgive me. That’s His job.” Said Heine. But what did he know?

I also suspect that ascribing the vulgar, crass, and only too human, emotion – of “hate,” to God is some sort of sin as well. But that’s not my area of expertise. It’s Ginny’s.

  53. ginnyfree says:

So Robert, are you saying that because of the proclamation of 1950 being AFTER the appearance of the Queen of Heaven to three shepherd children at Fatima or to Bernadette at Lourdes, it has to remain as if there was only a ghost of her there? I’m not really sure what you mean. As far as I know, the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary was always believed by us, but because of controversies, it wasn’t settled doctrine until the Pope put his foot down and said no more skeptical speculations about the particulars. As for detracting from the topic, well this is supernatural stuff and so it is part of the topic. It is just a pet peeve of mine though, so consider that. God bless. Ginnyfree.

  54. ginnyfree says:

P.S. To a person such as Lucia who saw her, telling her it was just an apparition wouldn’t go over too well. This is why being visited by the Queen of Heaven is such a cross to those in this special company of persons. Convincing those around them that yes, indeedie, the actual Mother of God was there, alive and speaking to them in person. God bless. Ginnyfree.

  55. Robert says:

Ginny you are putting words into my mouth. I never used the term ghost you did.
Apparitions whether true or false have been determined by the Church for centuries. Now with Lourdes and Fatima we have the Churches (Peter’s) confirmation of Our Lady’s appearance. That’s all that is necessary to know!

This Age of Naturalism (Modernism) and its materialism has meant the lost even denial of the spiritual dimension and with this the Kingdoms of Heaven and Hell become myths!

The children at Fatima were shown Hell and Toad questions the veracity of their vision. His view is commonly shared in an anti christian society. The derisory view of the medival church is also a common misconception. You will find under Religious heading everything from Islam through to Hinduism (Comparative Religion) and dumped in there the Bible and the Saints.

Worse drug induced hallucinations were also put forward to explain the visions of seers.

The Popes warned of modernism and materialism because this leaves man at the level of the animal and without a soul! As with other animals, culling, cross breeding, etc.. becomes permissible. In short the road to Hell.

I give you the truth found in Psalm 5:7 “Thou hatest all the workers of iniquity: Thou wilt destroy all that speak a lie. The bloody and the deceitful man the Lord will abhor.” http://www.drbo.org/chapter/21005.htm Wow! There ya have it folks: God hates some people and will utterly destroy them! There’s more I could say, but this is unwise at this time in my life as it causes so much distress to bring this up. I always love pointing to the Deluge as proof. Kinda hard to ignore that one if you are either Jew or Christian. Now, about that General Confession Toad………………why to you beg off with trite remarks about possible presumption on my part in urging you to do your duty as a Catholic? The Mercy of God is not to be scoffed at. God died for you. The least you can do is confess to a priest and do some penance for your sins. God bless. Ginnyfree.

Start to understand Free Will and what it means. Adam and Eve sinned against Love (Obedience is Love, Disobedience hatred) but not against neighbour!
Cain hated His Brother as well as resented God. Cain’s hatred is complete God and Neighbour and He was perfectly possessed.
Judas sinned against God and also His neighbour.
If Man has chosen completely Satan what is there to Save! Hell is His chosen Kingdom.
Souls Destroy themselves killing their souls what therefor is there to Save? What matters is salvation of Souls in Eternity not longevity of human Life and the loss of Souls.

  62. ginnyfree says:

Toad, as you can see from Robert’s reply, it is very difficult for men to come to terms with the wrath of God being just. Yet, it is true: God got so tired of men’s sins that He wiped them from the face of the earth by the flood in Noah’s days. Only 8 people survived His just wrath. Fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom and it is out of this holy fear that true reverence is born which brings piety. Yes, we are supposed to fear God. Those who don’t, IMHO, have a disordered love of God with all its disordered expectations which leads to a distorted theology and usually when it gets challenged, they react in bad ways as can be seen in the above. The Word of God doesn’t lie. It clearly states that there are those who God hates. To claim that the Word of God is not true is a very serious matter. The are Bibles you can find that have footnotes that explain away this justice as to make it more appealing to the Universalists: they simply define hate as to love less, as in less favored by God. This has to be so simply because to a Universalist, even the devil will be saved by the atoning sacrifice of Jesus’ death, so God can’t possibly hate anyone or anything at all, so they alter the Word of God to suit their tastes. So, if you read the text with that in mind, God simply loves the evils in the world less than He loves others. Insane if you ask me. But what do I know? I’m a silly woman who never stopped fearing God and if I did, I’d get really worried about the core of my personal spirituality. God bless. Ginnyfree.

Not my God, Gin-free girl. But you are quite right – the God of a surprising lot of people is the God of Hate and Fear. [another sentence deleted here]
They tried to dump the image if a hateful God on me, as a toadpole.
I said, “No thanks.” Still do.

  64. ginnyfree says:

Toad, can you please separate to emotion from the fact. Love and hate are verbs. They aren’t emotions. Emotions can generate them. God is not a “god of hate” But the word of God does not lie. There are people who do such horrible things that they are hated by God. It destroys them. That is the fact that the Psalm is conveying. The Flood is proof of this. The Jews never lost sight of this fact: you can lose God’s favor and blessings by living an evil life and turning away from God. I have no idea what EMOTIONS were attached to the way in which you were taught about God. Obviously from the result I can deduce that they were very negative ones. That is in the past and it must be left there. Learn from it. Now, the result was that you turned away from God, that is the part you are responsible for, not the mistaken message and those who delivered it to you. Do you want me to tickle your ears a bit and sell you on the Hallmark version of Jesus? He loves those who keep His Commandments. John 5:3 and John 14:15. This is how we are known as Christians, that we love one another. John 13:35. I would not be acting in a loving way towards you if I told you otherwise. The truth hurts sometimes. My dad said that. It is true. But if it hurts you, look upon a Cross and see how much it hurt Him.

    God bless. Ginnyfree.

  65. toadspittle says:

“Love and hate are verbs. “
No they aren’t. They are nouns.

    Dictionary definition:
    LOVE [luhv]
    (Synonyms Examples Word Origin
    See more synonyms on Thesaurus.com)
1.a profoundly tender, passionate affection for another person.
    2. a feeling of warm personal attachment or deep affection, as for a parent, child, or friend.
    3. sexual passion or desire. (and so on.)
(used in direct address as a term of endearment, affection, or the like): etc., etc.

“They (Love and Hate) aren’t emotions,”
    Yes they are.
“There are people who do such horrible things that they are hated by God. “
Yes there are such people – but God is too big to hate any of us. any more than any sane person can “hate,” a wasp. It’s a petty, spiteful, human, emotion.
So, most of us wretches suffer from it. I try not to. Occasionally succeed.

(I honestly think CP&S is frightened by some ideas I put up. Fie. “ye of little faith, ” etc. Why not let people make their own minds up? It doesn’t hurt. Much. Why not put “heretical” ideas up, then demolish them?
Ah, well, I write to amuse The Moderators, these days.)

[A moderator replies: Are you really so naive as to imagine that we are “frightened” of your “heretical ideas” that are constantly all around us in the secular spheres we live in? Yours though no different, are tediously repetitive. We have every right to delete them from a blog dedicated to spreading knowledge and love of Christ and the Catholic Church.

  66. toadspittle says:

“We have every right to delete them from a blog dedicated to spreading knowledge and love of Christ and the Catholic Church.”
Of course you do. No denying that.

  67. ginnyfree says:

Toad, you must really think I’m stupid. To love is the verb for the word love and anyone who has studied languages, including basic English, knows that there are words that can bounce around from being verbs to nouns to adjectives and adverbs and well, they can be all things to all men! Amare is the word in Latin that is to love, a verb. Amo, ami, ama, etc. are the conjugations for the word. God is love is truth and to reduce Him to a mere feeling of something by limiting the word love the way you have, well it clearly and effectively distorts the mind’s understanding of God. Now, quit nit picking and get serious. God died for you. The least you can do is go to Confession and accept some penance. God bless. Ginnyfree.

  68. toadspittle says:

Yes, but you didn’t say that, Ginster – did you? And you said love and hate are not emotions, ….which they are. They can’t be anything else.
And as you persist in wading in over your head again, it’s “Amo, Amas, Amat, Amamus, Amatis, Amant.”
Not whatever gibberish, “Amo, ami, ama, etc.” is. (though the first one is correct. presumably by accident.)

  69. ginnyfree says:

Toadie, you’re being silly: “They can’t be anything else.” Deus caritas est. God IS love! If I take what you say literally, you’ve reduced God to a mere emotion. This is the Almighty, the one who has created the Heavens, the earth and all they contain, who holds all of this creation together in Himself, who sent His only begotten Son to die upon the Cross for you, that you are inferring can only be an emotion and He can only be that singular emotion you’ll accept, love, the feel-good mushy kind that you find splashed all over Hallmark cards at the local Rite Aid. By not seeing the verb to love as an action, you’ve limited God. Not only that, but the limits you’ve placed upon Him by only allowing Him to be a feeling of love rather than the fullness of the Divine Love that exceeds all loves we can possibly know, well, for Toad, He cannot be anything other than a feeling and since He can only be the loving feeling you’ve reduced Him to, He cannot possibly act. I repeat, by limiting Him to an emotion, He cannot possibly act. That’s what you’ve done. Love as a verb is an action and it means for man to act as Gospel Message states clearly: “If you love me, you will keep my Commandments,” John 14:15 or 1 John 5:3 “For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments; and His commandments are not burdensome.” These verses are not speaking about a feeling. They’re not telling you to feel some way, but to actually act some way. It is about doing things differently out of your love for God. Verbs are action words. You know this Toad. It is why you are so angry and frustrated because you’ve failed at doing this and the great and mighty Toad cannot admit failure. Basic psychology. Its why you lash out at us here and elsewhere, because you’ve tried a failed and it seems simply to give up trying rather than humiliate yourself with this fact in the Confessional by admitting you’ve sinned. Grow up and man up. Jesus died for you. Face the facts. His blood was shed for you. Love is a verb. It means action. Look at the stars around you lilypad tonight if you can see them and think the God spread them all across the sky so you could look up and see how tiny you actually are, but in seeing know this one thing: the the Almighty who made it all, died upon a Cross so you could live at peace with Him under all those millions of sparkling stars. He loves you that much. At that is a large verb, the very Word that becomes flesh, the Word spoken that made it all desires you to do something as well. If you love Him, go to Confession and let His blood heal you in your sinful places. That’s why He was sent and why He came and why He laid His body down on that wood: for you. God bless. Ginnyfree.

P.S. I’d much rather have the verbs than the emotions you prefer.

  70. toadspittle says:

“If I take what you say literally, you’ve reduced God to a mere emotion. “
Then don’t take it literally, Gin-Free. Take it how you like. That’s what we all do with one another, anyway.

    “Toad cannot admit failure.”
Oh yes he can. Can’t admit much else. But he’s stubborn.
“Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better.” (Beckett.)
