Dressing Modestly is Practicing for Heaven

When was the last time you heard a sermon on dressing in a modest fashion? Perhaps you have never heard one if you live in a Novus Ordo parish. And yet modesty, together with the virtue of chastity (purity), are pathways to Heaven.

Advice from St Padre Pio:

“There are, moreover, three virtues which perfect the devout person with regard to control of his own senses. These are: modesty, continence and chastity. By the virtue of modesty the devout person governs all his exterior acts. With good reason, then, does St. Paul recommend this virtue to all and declare how necessary it is and as if this were not enough he considers that this virtue should be obvious to all. By continence the soul exercises restraint over all the senses: sight, touch, taste, smell and hearing. By chastity, a virtue which ennobles our nature and makes it similar to that of the Angels, we suppress our sensuality and detach it from forbidden pleasures.

This is the magnificent picture of Christian perfection. Happy the one who possesses all these fine virtues, all of them fruits of the Holy Spirit who dwells within him. Such a soul has nothing to fear and will shine in the world as the sun in the heavens.”

There will be clothes in Heaven, then. And dry cleaners?

How on earth (literally) do we define what is, “Dressing in a modest fashion?” The way people dress in certain near- eqitorial regions of the world (virtually naked) – or how Esquimos dress?
And don’t suggest it’s all relative (asif you would) to the remperature. It”s clearly about how much of our bodies we feel we can or should expose – to either admiration or scorn, or the wrath of God.
… All a matter of taste, in fact.
And let’s not forget there are vast bits of the world, where exposing either a woman’s hair, and in some even more abssurd cases, even her face – is considered immodest.
Will CP&S kindly explain to us where we should draw our particular line?

Modesty in Dress isn’t a matter of personal choice in God’s eyes.

    1 Timothy 2
[9] “In like manner women also in decent apparel: adorning themselves with modesty and sobriety, not with plaited hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly attire,”

    Matthew 5
[27] “You have heard that it was said to them of old: Thou shalt not commit adultery.”
[28] “But I say to you, that whosoever shall look on a woman to lust after her, hath already committed adultery with her in his heart.”

    Romans 13:
[9] “For Thou shalt not commit adultery: Thou shalt not kill: Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness: Thou shalt not covet: and if there be any other commandment, it is comprised in this word, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

Obviously, nobody told Raymond Cardinal Burke that.
Don’t know how he does his hair, though.
