A huge fire has engulfed Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris (Image: GETTY)

What a dreadful story.

Fire – roof of Notre Dame of Paris.

I wonder if this dreadful shock will awaken the Faith is the Church’s eldest daughter.

Read on over at Fr Z’s blog… including a twitter update with the good news that all the works of art have been saved, that all the treasures including the crown of thorns and the holy sacraments are intact.

The sanctuary of my parish church was totally gutted by a teenage arsonist closer to 50 years ago. I hope this was an accident, not something more sinister.

History is destroyed! I hope it’s not an intentional act! 😦 This is a sad day!
Lord, wake up the hearts of France and renew their faith!

I am still in absolute shock!! This magnificent cathedral where, year after year we, and the thousands of other Chartres pilgrims, crowd inside for the holy sacrifice of the Mass and the blessing of the banners before we start off on our three-day pilgrimage to Norte Dame de Chartres… now gutted by a devastating fire. What a terrible heartbreaking tragedy!

Was it really an accident? I wonder. There has been a growing spate of vicious destructive desecration of churches in France, and the church of St Suplice in Paris (that was devastated by fire recently) was known to be a deliberate act of arson.

Christendom in Europe – in fact, in all western nations – is under a satanic attack in every way. When will we wake up and fight back as true ‘soldiers of Christ’?

Thank you, JH. It is good we have many pictures to remember the splendour of this beautiful cathedral… for the renovation works – that hopefully will one day restore Norte Dame to its former beauty and magnificence – will take about 20 years, according to the reports!

Among the many moving images we have seen whilst the fire raged, THIS ONE, of a large group of young people singing the Rosary on their knees, is surely the most touching. (I bet many of them are Chartres pilgrims; it is the Hail Mary we pray on the pilgrimage to Chartres.)
