…but if not, there’s a Traditional Catholic homeschooling mother of seven in the States who makes beautiful, high quality rosaries from hand-cast antique bronze and semi-precious stones; and one of her creations is based on the An Paidrin Beag – ‘The Little Rosary’ – also known as the Irish Penal Rosary. It’s a single decade rosary (what she calls a ‘tenner’) that was worn from a ring during the penal times when Catholic sacramentals were illegal. The ring could be put on one finger at a time, beginning with the thumb, and then moved to the next finger until all five decades of the rosary were completed. Because of its tiny size, it could easily be concealed in the palm of one’s hand, thus allowing Catholics to pray in secret.
Anyway, her home cottage industry is called Loreto Rosaries, and if you browse around her website, you’ll eventually come to a photo and a description of the Irish Penal Rosary. I’ve bought rosaries (not this one yet) from Loreto before and can attest to their superior quality. One nice thing about the Irish Penal Rosary is that it’s rather masculine (rough hewn) in appearance, and because of that and its discreet profile, it’s something a man would be comfortable carrying constantly. I intend to buy one for our parish sacristan who’s a pure born and bred Irishman.
I hope no one thinks I’m a shill for this woman’s business, but mentioning it seemed interesting and also relevant to the topic Kathleen raised.
Oh, one other thing: on the Loreto website, some of the rosaries on offer are said to be “Sold Out”, but that’s because they are made individually by hand. When ordered, they are custom made (all of them are slightly different ,which is really neat) with the delivery time being a bit longer.

The Dogma cannot “change” or be “reversed” … God does not “change”.
