H/T to Tim Drake, whose record of what was said is below.
Also take a look at Fr Z’s blog. He says:
“I think something like this needs some care to preserve proper reverence for the Blessed Sacrament. I am not sure how this squares with liturgical law, involvement with the local bishop, etc.
But… if those things can be worked through…
Does this fit with the New Evangelization?
Is this what we need to do?”
What do you think? Is this a valid way of bringing Our Lord back into the marketplace? If not, what would you suggest?
And here’s another question. In a world that ignores religion, that scoffs at believers, that misrepresents what Catholics believe, would you kneel if you had been in that mall? If not, why not?

JP,
I watched that with tears running down my face. Such peaceful and sacred witness are part of the future of the new Evangelisation.
Does everyone know that Preston is named after ‘Priest’s Town’?
Tell me, from which Order was that monk who held aloft Our Lord?
I only ask because the colour of his habit resembles mine, and I am still prone to vanity.
Great post.

I too watched it in tears. I am an Englishwoman, living in Canada for many years, also an adult convert to Catholicism and unhappy about the present widespread ignorance of it and prejudice against it in the UK, especially when one recalls that the Catholic Church has been the historic faith in the British Isles for about 1500 years or more. I found this event in Preston very moving indeed, especially because it was very simple. The presence of Christ amongst the people.
BB, you may like to look at the following: http://acertainhope.blogspot.com/2011/06/making-of-eucharistic-flash-mob.html . Also: http://www.youtube.com/user/CapuchinFranciscan. I found these addresses amongst the comments from the public. There is information about Brother Paul, who held the Monstrance aloft, and how he organised it.

Thanks, Jacqueline. Two excellent links.
I like that they had agents in the crowd handing out information and answering questions.

I was especially moved to see the tiny old lady pushing a wheeled Zimmer-frame walking device stop and kneel onto the pavement, and stay down there. God bless her. I hope somebody helped her get up again!
